3.23.18 Hear the Latest in “Period Equity”

What happens when a feminist activist attorney begins looking at menstruation through the lens of equity and fairness? Interesting questions start being raised about things we don’t mention, don’t think about, or have taken for granted.

PWA will host Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, author of Periods Gone Public: Taking a Stand for Menstrual Equity, for a reading, Q&A, and book signing at Books and Mortar on Friday, March 23, 2018. Weiss-Wolf is an author, attorney, and Vice President for Development at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.

Date and Time: Friday, March 23, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Location: Books & Mortar, 955 Cherry St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506  “Grand Rapids’ proudly progressive, consciously curated, and fiercely independent neighborhood bookstore.”  booksandmortar.com

To purchase a copy of the book in advance at a 10% discount, click HERE. The book will be ordered for you and held at Books & Mortar for your pick-up at the signing.

Join the activism by bringing a package of factory-sealed menstrual hygiene products for donation to a local women’s shelter. Products such as tampons, maxi pads, and pantyliners are all accepted and encouraged. Bring one box or as many as you want, and PWA will deliver them to the YWCA.

The event is free, but we ask that you please RSVP HERE.

In her book Periods Gone Public, Weiss-Wolf explores how periods have come to be a prominent political cause – from enacting new laws to eliminate the tampon tax, to ensuring access to affordable, safe products. Weiss-Wolf shares her firsthand account of the fight for "period equity" and talks about many of the leaders, pioneers, and everyday people who are making change happen.
